Psalm 33:6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
The Word of God is truth because he is truth. The Word of God stands fast, and it is sustained and guaranteed by his righteousness, goodness, and judgment.
John 17:17 — Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Isaiah 40:8 — The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Debating God’s Word, being successful at proving your point is not a demonstration of its power. The ability to quote Bible verses is good but it’s more than that. God’s Word in action is proof of its authenticity and authority.
Many criticize the Bible because they think they are successful in exposing its flaws ( based on their understanding ), but none of these men and women have been able to prove God’s Word to be ineffective in life.
The Bible should not be studied as just a literary masterpiece. It’s a library, filled with instructions on how to live. It exposes to us the true nature of humanity, our greatest need, and the solution to our problems. It gives us all the evidence we need about the one who created us and what he is like. To properly evaluate how effective the Bible is we must first test it out in our daily living, either God’s Word can do what it says it will or it won’t.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
When we approach God’s Word we must first humble ourselves. We must approach it with a desire to learn. The Spirit of truth also known as the Spirit of Christ, must guide us into all truth. If I have never studied God’s Word before that’s fine.
The Bible is for everyone willing to humble themselves before God and learn of him. For the Bible to come to life, for it to be real, it requires faith. Many believe they don’t have the faith that is necessary for the study of God’s Word but that’s far from the truth.
We exercise faith every day. Getting on a plane requires faith, you believe that you will get to your destination safely. The truth is many haven’t. To leave your home to go to work is an act of faith. You see we need faith to set in motion things in our lives that we have not seen as yet but we believe will happen. So we make decisions based on an outcome we have not yet seen.
When going for a holiday, many make hotel reservations in advance, however, they haven’t boarded the flight, so they aren’t 100% sure they will make it, to get to the hotel. How many people would have booked a hotel room and not made it to the hotel for whatever reason ( there are many reasons this could happen )? This is an act of faith, behaving as if it has already been done when we haven’t experienced it yet.
For God’s Word to be active in our lives we must exercise faith. God has given every man a measure of faith.
We may choose a verse to read from the Bible, think about it deeply, and ask God to help us understand what we have read. Then by faith we live out the principles contained in the verse believing that God will improve our character and our lives as we live his Word.
2 Timothy 3:16,17 -All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
The Scriptures were given so that we would know how to live in harmony with God. Many study the scriptures for money, wealth, status among brethren, to receive blessings, to condemn others and the list goes on.
We study God’s Word to know Him. Our lives then prove that he exists, it demonstrates his power. Many who read the Bible love the men of old, like Daniel, Joseph, Samuel, and many others, but why do we love these men, because they were crooked? Of course not. These Men are loved because they were upright but how did they get that way? They lived by the Word of God. It is such a life that can receive the blessings of God.
Many who would have lived by God’s Word did suffer for it, look at Joseph and Jeremiah. Daniel was thrown to the lions. Living by God’s Word is its reward. It’s not because of the material things one can get but it is the joy that such a life brings.
Even when things go bad in the case of Joseph, from a pit to chief servant, to a prisoner, to the prime minister. Joseph had a roller coaster ride but his Joy was in the Lord so he remained faithful regardless of the consequences.
God’s Word can sustain us in hard times. We can hold on to him through His Word by faith.
Romans 10:17 -So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Many are looking for proof that God exists, many want to see proof that the Bible is God’s Word and not some book conjured up by men. The proof they seek is in the lives of men and women who have been transformed by it.
You be the proof, you be the one to display God’s power. Let his word shine forth in your life today.
Let the power of God’s Word be seen in you.
