Green Sabbath - A New Rest

Genesis 2: 1-3

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

It is interesting that the world is now recognizing that a day of rest is needed. What is even more amazing, is that a day of rest already exists, which most of the world has chosen to ignore for millennia.

Exodus 20: 8-11

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The Law of GOD

The Law of God, contained in Exodus 20: 3-17(KJV), which some claim to be nailed to the cross, (but is still binding), have as the fourth commandment a day of rest, from all work. Interestingly enough, it starts by saying, remember. Many have done just the opposite and made it there purpose to forget.

My question is, will we keep the Sabbath rest as the Bible says in Genesis 2: 1-3 and Exodus 20: 8-11? or will we again disobey God’s law.

Many refer to the Seventh-day Sabbath as the Jewish Sabbath, however, the Sabbath was given at creation when there was just Adam and Eve. As Bible believing Christians, we must agree that Adam was a Sabbath keeper. And by definition he was a son of God, not a Jew. So where does that leave the rest of us who are not Jews. Just like Adam, as sons and daughters of God we must be obedient to God’s law.

The Cost of Obedience

God knew that for the development and sustainability of human life a day of rest to strengthen our relationship with our creator, our family was necessary. A day to honor God, a day blessed and sanctified. God himself rested as an example on the seventh day. Will we continue to disobey, The Almighty God?

I do agree that the earth and humanity needs a day of rest. I do agree that if the world should rest it would improve our quality of life. However I do not believe that we have the right to choose which day to rest on, that choice belongs to the one who created us. We were not given a Sabbath day but the Sabbath day to keep it Holy. A specific day.

Many are keeping the green sabbath as Sunday or another day of the week. Many restrictions have been placed on businesses, mobility and work on Sundays. Whilst the day of rest as given by God’s law is still unheeded and trampled upon.

God’s day of rest deals with the heart, the mind. It aims straight at what is wrong with humanity. It is the restoration of God’s image in men and women. God cannot re-create the environment while we do not possess his character. Why? because we will do to it, exactly what we are doing now.

Our real focus should be obedience to God, worship him as he requires, on the day that he has given and let him take care of the environment.

Whether we believe it or not Jesus is Coming soon. And he will restore the environment to what it should be. You being there to see him do it, will depend, on whether you will allow the Holy Spirit, to give you the strength and the courage to do as he says.

Remember the Sabbath day (the Seventh day) to keep it Holy.
