The Plagues and Pestilence I

What is a plague?

Exodus 9:14 - For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.

Leviticus 13:2 - When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a scab, or bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like the plague of leprosy; then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests:

Numbers 16:47,48 - And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

Plagues are calamities that befall man and beast. It can be a contagious diseases or natural disasters.

What is a pestilence?

2 Samuel 24:13,15 - So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

2 Chronicles 21:14 - So the Lord sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

Jeremiah 21:6 - And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.

Pestilences are very contagious diseases like a pandemic that wipe out thousands over a short space of time. It can affect both man and beasts. Now that we have a basic understanding of plagues and pestilences as defined by the Bible, how do we make sense of what is happening today.

The coronavirus is a pandemic that has swept the world.

As of August 7th 2020, there have been 18,902,735 confirmed cases of covid-19, including 709,511 deaths, reported. These are reported cases so the numbers could be higher. - The World Health Organization

As a Bible student and follower of Jesus Christ what is our response to all of this. Believe it or not, the wearing of masks and vaccines are the least of our troubles. We are living in a very dynamic environment, where the only real constant is change. The only sure foundation that is not shifting or changing is the Word of God. We can trace our existence between the pages of the Word of God.

So, where are we now ?
